Hello and Welcome to “The Thing About Bears” website.
My name is Sam Glanville, I am the Artist and Creator of “The Thing About Bears”. I live in the small village of Mongeham near Deal in Kent with my husband and two children. I made my first bear about 16 years ago. To begin with, I made bears for family and friends but now I pride myself on creating hand crafted quality first class bears that you will not only be proud of but will be eager to show off to your friends and family. My bears have been on sale all over the country under the business name “Bears by Sam” which was established back in 1993, later to be renamed “The Thing About Bears”. I have listed below a few of the retail outlets where my bears have been on sale;
Baskets and Bows… Lakeside Shopping centre The Corn Exchange… Rye Christina and Co… Canterbury Heathmor Craft shop… Deal
Since having my first daughter in 1997 and then my second daughter in 1999, my time for bear making was limited in order for me to fulfil my duties as a full time mum. Now that my children are older, I am at a stage in my life when I can once again devote my time and energy to the bear world. I have real passion and much enthusiasm for bear making and have had a lot of enjoyment over the past few months designing and creating new patterns and trying out new ideas.
I decided that this time I would need to make my business more suited to today’s technology which would mean designing and maintaining a website making my work available to a wider and more International audience…. With my very limited knowledge of web design, I have managed to create my own website which I very much hope to improve upon in the not too distant future. I also thought it would be fun to change the name of my business to “The Thing About Bears” as very little thought went into my original name “Bears By Sam” and to be quite honest, I always found it rather boring.
I get a tremendous amount of enjoyment and satisfaction from making bears and love the idea that one of my creations can make other people smile. I am a firm believer that we do not choose the bear, but the bear chooses us. I find it very hard to part with my bears but I know that they will be given a loving, caring home by whoever they choose to live with.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit and found my site both informative and useful. I look forward to seeing you again soon and please take a moment to sign my guestbook before leaving…….Thank You and please come back soon!
